What to expect from Laser Tattoo Removal
The Laser Tattoo removal treatment can create a superficial burn wound. Patients may experience some bruising for swelling. After your treatment, the treated area will experience immediate whitening. This is the inks reaction to to the the absorption of the light energy from the laser. It will create steam within the surface of your skin, which will last for several minutes.
Normal Reactions of Laser Tattoo Removal
Scabs, crusts and bruising will occur within 8-72 hours after treatment, which can last for 1-2 week. After the scab separates, the treated area may look pink or pale. Complete healing usually takes 4-6 weeks, but healing times will vary
Post-care steps for Laser Tattoo Removal
- Keep the Treated Area dry and clean with soap and water. Pat the area dry. Do NOT scrub it but pat it gently. Use an antibiotic ointment 3 times a day for 3 days. Additionally, a sterile dressing can be used to to cover the area for these 3 days
- Post treatment, swelling and slight bruising will occur. This is a natural reaction of the bodies immune system, which indicates that the fragmented tattoo ink is beginning to be removed.
- If you experience any inflammation or discomfort, cold compresses and ice packs may be used. Tylenol is recommended over aspirin becas Aspirin can increase the chance of bruising and bleeding.
- DO NOT pick at scabs. Picking at scabs will increase your chance of getting an infection and/or developing scars.
- Do not shave the treated area until healing is complete.
- It is not recommended to soak in baths, hot tubs or swimming pools. This also increases the chances of infection. Please wait until the scabs are fully healed.
- It is recommended that you exercise only if all other after care instructions are practiced.
- Use SPF 25 or higher sun block over the treated area for up to 2 months following the treatment.
- It is common to experience itching after Laser Tattoo removal treatment. Hydrocortisone cream, Vitamin E and Aquaphor can be used to relieve it.
- If you experience unusual discomfort, any bleeding to the treated area, and/or the area looks infected, please contact the office immediately at 408-984-2900.
- If you experience extreme reactions, please go to the emergency room or call 911 immediately.
